The Douglas Corporation has purchased an additional
pedestrianised vehicle from Bradshaw Electric vehicles to help
keep its streets and promenade clean and free of rubbish. The
vehicles have replaced the traditional brushes, shovels and barrows
and have allowed the operators to empty bins as well as removing
street litter.
Alan Donnelly of the Douglas Corporation
says: “We are
not allowed to take vehicles into pedestrianised zones during
the day and so we opted for the PC40s from Bradshaw to help keep
the streets clean. One is used in the shopping centre and the
other on the promenade. The promenade is about three miles long
and the operator walks along this cleaning the streets and emptying
the bins as he goes. The caged body of the PC40 gives him the
capacity to empty all the bins along the full length of the promenade.”
The vehicles are used five and a half days a week and were built
to meet the requirements of the Corporation, with the caged body
to contain rubbish bags and tray to hold equipment. They are
ideal in Douglas town centre as the area is compact and the vehicles
are fume-free and quiet.
Alan adds: “The vehicles have been effective – they
are exactly what we needed for the task. They are easy to use
and the operators are happy with them. They are also very visible
and so we are intending to use them in small advertising campaigns.
The smoking ban comes into force early 2008 and we intend to
publicise this on our vehicles. We may also put a Christmas message
on them!”
The PC40 is Bradshaw’s best selling
pedestrian-controlled vehicle for waste management applications.
The vehicle is again
available in a number of configurations, including high tip refuse
bodies.
The vehicle has been designed to give maximum strength and dependability
with primary emphasis on operator safety. Using the vehicle is
simple and all controls are housed in one easy-to-use box mounted
on the tiller arm.
